Book Two in the Nyssa Glass Steampunk Series
Being framed for murder and forced to flee the country sort of takes the fun out of vacations.
Reformed cat burglar, Nyssa Glass, wants to lead an honest life as an electrician's apprentice. Instead, she's on the run with her new friend, Ellis, implicated in a crime she didn't commit. The pair ends up stowing away on a zeppelin and meeting Renard and Amara, two teens running away to be married. But the mysterious couple is hiding something—and it might get Nyssa and Ellis killed.

Nyssa Glass and the Juliet Dilemma Book Two in the Nyssa Glass Steampunk Series eBook H L Burke

I adored this short story! But then, I am a fan of the Nyssa Glass series and of author H.L. Burke. It is typically steampunk, and filled with plenty of gadgetry, adventure, Victorian clothes, and a tough heroine. There was so much to love about this story! From Nyssa’s and Ellis’s adorable awkward romance, to the adventure of Nyssa’s thief life, to life aboard the ship, and the imagination of what their paradise destination will look like, and the light thrilling caper of the Dragon Heart ruby, against the typical moustache-twirling villain and his thug (reminded me of the old-fashioned movies). I love that Nyssa isn’t the standard boring tough chick. She is tough, yes, but she’s unrefined, quiet, afraid of heights, really unsure of her emotions, and insecure of her place in life. All those together make her a more-likable and more-relatable heroine. (She reminds me Selina Kyle in Gotham and Nyssa from Doctor Who). Ellis, too, has a lot of insecurities, mostly stemming from his handicap, which makes the heart really reach out for him as well as admire him for his stubbornness for overcoming his obstacles, and I also love his steadfast optimism. In all, this is a delightful read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Nyssa Glass and the Juliet Dilemma Book Two in the Nyssa Glass Steampunk Series eBook H L Burke Reviews

Having read book 1 of Nyssa's adventures, I looked forward to continuing her story. This one is a non-stop tale of suspense, cool gadgets, mysterious antagonists, and I loved the continuing interaction between Nyssa and Ellis. It's fun to journey with two smart, quirky young people. I alternate between gasping over their peril and smiling at their budding love. I recommend this series for anyone who likes urban fantasy/steampunk, adventure, suspense, and romance. Waiting for #3!
Such fun to watch Ellis and Nyssa continue to match wits and grow their relationship while trying to keep themselves alive high in the sky. I not only enjoyed this story but will continue on to the next story in the series.

Intimacy - a few sweet kisses
Language - a few instances of swearing
Violence - several characters are threatened with guns; a gun is fired accidentally but no one is hit
Religion - Nyssa prays a few times
~This is the second book in a series about the adventures and exploits of Nyssa and Ellis. Here we are introduced to several additional characters, including Renard and Amara, two teens running away to be married. As implied by the book synopsis, these two are just a little bit more than they seem at first. I enjoyed how the author weaved the new characters into the lives of Nyssa and Ellis. Once again, I must say that Nyssa is the star of the book. I found Amara to be an interesting counter-point to Nyssa. Yes, she got on my nerves a time or two…but, that was who she is. And she did have certain redeeming qualities.
~This book takes place primarily aboard the airship HMS Juliet. H.L. Burke gives the reader a good sense of being aboard the airship. This made the story all that more appealing for me.
~While it was fast paced, I don’t think it was quite as much of an adventure as the first book was. That said, I did enjoy it completely, and recommend it
Another great story in the Nyssa Glass series. I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I did the first one, but I still loved it. It wasn’t as sad or creepy as book 1, and I enjoyed that. I loved having another mystery to solve, though this was completely different.

The other couple was soooo annoying, but it helped me to relate more to Nyssa because she felt the same way. In fact, most every thought she had about them was how I responded. And I liked how at the end she was talking with Ellis about her insecurities concerning her reaction to love and I thought it was a great way to connect with readers who are more reserved(especially in public) with their love and maybe feel like it seems as if they don’t love the person they’re with.

I wish we could’ve seen a little more of the Juliet. It seemed there was this cool new experience and I would’ve liked to enjoy what it had to offer, but there was so much racing around and trying to survive that I didn’t get to see as much as I would’ve liked. But that’s small potatoes.

Overall, another enjoyable read and I’m jumping straight into the next one!
Burke's done it again. The only problem I had is that this one waas shorter that "Nyssa Glass and the House of Mirrors," and i want a Nyssa story that will take me longer than 2 -3 days to read! This one came out on Father's Day in the states and was the perfect gift to myself - I'd been waiting to hear of its release for weeks. I was NOT disappointed. Mrs. Burke is an incredible storyteller, but like Stephen King, when she is writing about the human condition her prose knows few equals. Not to give anything away but there is a beautiful scene at the end of the story between Nysaa and Ellis in whhic they discuss what love is...and it only sweetens the scenes that follow. Like the "House of Mirrors," Burke went for a deeper meaning, deeper thoughts, a serious take on life through the eyes of these to and she found it, big time.

I loved Nysssa from page 1 of book 1 and "The Juliet Dilema" did NOTHING but strengthen that love. The characters are so well fleshed out I can all but feel them sitting beside me as I read, and the gentle ease of Burke's writing pushes the story ahead at a breakneck pace. It's not that it's an easy read with simple words; it's just that H.L. knows how to turn a phrase, use the language to paint beautiful pictures. She's also a master of the cliffhanger; one annot just read one chapter, one must read the next, and the next....until it's gone. Then you're left wanting more.

Speaking of that, when can we now expect the full length (hint, hint, wink, wink,, nudge, nudge) Nyssa Glass 3, Mrs. Burke?!? )
