DEANNE CHEUK

“Nature seems to come through in everything. Even when I’m not trying to put it into my work, it sometimes ends up there.”

Deanne Cheuk is an illustrator, designer, art director and artist who currently works in New York.
She worked with several magazines such as Nylon, BlackBook, The Fader, Flaunt and The New York Times Magazine, Tokion, Nippon Vogue, and Dazed & Confused.
Personally I find her use of illustrative typography in magazine and advertisement design very interesting. Watercolor titles, hand drawn letter forms and pattern designs that she uses in her works are not just for print or digital media. Her works include prints, products, patterns, typo, illustration and collage.
She also designed several works for Nike, Converse, Sprint, Target Corp, The Gap and MTV2.

I find using illustrative typography in magazine and advertisement design tricky and rather challenging. In my opinion the fact that Cheuk chooses to design her own typography is a "bold move" to say the least and in that respect I find her artistic courage and experimental attitude very inspiring.
